Weatherman and author Kevin Janison will lead a panel discussion of children’s books at the Vegas Valley Book Festival’s opening day on Thursday, November 5 at the old Historic Fifth Street School. Deputy Dorkface Goes to California

Yes! That’s right! Kevin Janison will bring Deputy Dorkface to the Storyteller Stage at the Orange County Children’s Book Festival on October 2nd. Kevin and the Deputy will get to hang out with more than 30,000 visitors, meet  other children’s authors, illustrators, and entertainers, and read from one of the Deputy’s adventures. During March, Clark County schools celebrate Nevada Reading Week with a slew of activities.

The official celebration lands on the week that encompasses Dr. Seuss’ birthday, which was March 2. Schools, however, are given the option of changing the week that they celebrate to better suit their calendar, or of not participating at all.

“It’s a site-based decision,” said Dan Ihnen, coordinator of library services for the Clark County School District.
